One group in the Bronx has honored Veterans Day a few days early.
Herb Barret set up for the Jewish War Veterans' 14th annual Veterans Day ceremony in Van Cortlandt Park's Memorial Grove Sunday.
The 89-year-old served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He never shipped out overseas but worked on a base in North Carolina.
"I just want to bring to the attention that the veterans need to be recognized," Barret says.
Memorial Grove opened in 1949, but Barret says he fought to restore the park for almost 10 years. There are now 41 monuments to those who served.
Barret's granddaughter also came to the event to pay tribute to all the veterans.
Veterans Day is on Nov. 11, though Barret says appreciation for men and women who have served their country shouldn't stop there.
"I want them recognized all year-round," he says. "All day long, all week long, all month long. All the time."
