Brooklyn Council Member Chi Ossé was released from NYPD custody after viral video showed his arrest during an attempted eviction of a deed theft advocate on Wednesday morning.
"Putting an end to gentrification here in New York City, enough is enough," Ossé remarked following his release.
He says that he sustained injuries when he was thrown to the ground and that he plans to file a complaint against the arresting officers involved. Ossé is also calling for a moratorium on deed theft cases.
A video shared with News 12 showed the council member being arrested by police during an attempted eviction of a deed theft advocate.
In a statement posted on X, the Ossé states he he was arrested for defending Carmella Charrington from eviction from her home. Charrington was taken into custody Thursday during an appearance at Kings County Civil Supreme Court in connection to the conservatorship of her father in Georgia. She was just released on Tuesday evening.
CM Ossé was held at the 79th precinct.
