The Manhattan College women’s volleyball team raised $2,500 Saturday in support of an organization who helped a teammate’s sister who battled brain cancer as a child.
Team member Gina Marie Napoli’s younger sister has been in remission for six years since battling brain cancer. Her family is giving thanks to Friends of Karen, an organization which provides emotional and financial support to children with life-threatening diseases and their families at no cost.
Friends of Karen assisted Napoli's sister, Sophia, and family during their struggle with childhood cancer.
Sophia was an honorary captain of the volleyball team Saturday – wearing gold for childhood cancer awareness.
Friends of Karen is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Karen is the name of the first child the nonprofit ever supported.
The organization has now supported over 15,000 families.
