Public schools across the city received $1 million worth of services Saturday for free.
Thousands of volunteers participated in New York Cares Day to support and revitalize schools.
Thirteen schools in the Bronx benefited from the event, which had volunteers painting and planting, among other activities. The volunteers hope their efforts inspire students.
"The work done today really matters," says New York Cares coordinator Steven Streicher. "Students come in, see the space and understand it is a place of pride."
