Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Tuesday morning received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Harris and her husband joined a growing number of high-level officials who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, including President-elect Joe Biden, Vice President Mike Pence, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Harris received the Moderna vaccine. She says she trusts the scientists behind the shots.
"I want to encourage everyone to get the vaccine. It is relatively painless, it happens really quickly. It is safe...This is about saving lives," she said.
Experts say it is important for top government officials to be among the first to receive doses of the vaccine to boost confidence among the American people.
There was no word when or if President Donald Trump will get the vaccine.
