Friends and family remembered a 22-year-old Bronx man who was fatally shot outside his grandmother's apartment building in Longwood.
A wake for Alberto De Jesus was held at the Ortiz Funeral Home on Friday. Attendees, dressed in white shirts with his name and face on it, then walked five minutes to the spot where De Jesus was killed.
De Jesus's mother,Tamara Escudero, tells News 12 that her son loved boxing at the gym and was getting ready to join the Air Force.
"The worst part is just walking in here," Escudero said. "This is not a place a mother should have to walk into to see her son…No mother should have to do this."
Police charged 22-year-old Ford Tujuan, of the Bronx, with murder and criminal possession of a weapons in the second degree. They say the investigation is ongoing.
His mother told News 12 that the Air Force sent a representative to the funeral home to give her son his suit, dog tags and American flags so that he can be buried in his uniform Saturday.
