Family and friends gathered on Thursday night for the wake of John Sarquiz, who was beaten and robbed outside of a Bay Ridge deli last week before dying in the hospital days later.
Dozens of people filed in and out of the funeral home to pay their respects to the 55-year-old victim. His service comes as police have released new information on his alleged killer.
The incident took place on March 30 when police say someone punched Sarquiz outside of Dean Mini Market from behind and kicked him in the head several times before stealing money out of his wallet and fleeing the scene.
Sarquiz was discovered on the scene unresponsive and died due to his injuries a few days later.
Police say his alleged killer goes by the name of Phillip Myers, a man with an arrest record dating back to 1992. Myers has been arrested for murder in the past.
The family is praying for justice to be served as the NYPD continues their search for the alleged killer.
