Wakefield residents are frustrated after learning a local coronavirus testing site is closing.
Some tell News 12 they went to the facility at 4101 White Plains Rd. to get tested and were told the site is shutting down after today.
The site is run by NYC Health and Hospitals and has been offering tests seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Some Bronx residents say this has been their go-to site and getting them cleared to go about their daily lives.
Doriska Clark says they can’t go to church unless they are tested.
“I’m concerned because I just took my sister to get tested and they say they’re closing down the site and I’m concerned because there’s supposed to be a new strain,” Clark says. “Why are they closing sites instead of opening more?”
The current case rate in Wakefield is more than 11,700 per 100,000 people, according to city data.
News 12 reached out to New York City Health and Hospitals to learn why the site is closing but have not heard back.
