Warwick Valley High School cosmetology students are partnering with volunteers and the community this weekend to donate hair to children with hair loss.
The group of juniors and seniors will help volunteer professionals cut hair during an all-day, family fun event called “The Great Cut Warwick” at the high school on Saturday.
All 26 hair-cut slots are filled, but interested donors can bring pre-cut, clean and tied hair to donate or donate money toward covering the cost to make wigs.
Organizers say they hope to promote hair donation, especially for children in need
“A lot of people don’t realize that you can donate your hair, and it only takes 8 inches. There’re so many videos that are online where you see people cutting like 12 inches and just throwing it in the air for the wow factor,” says Soney Frommeyer.
Donated hair will be given to the nonprofit Children With Hair Loss, which gives free wigs to kids with cancer, alopecia and other conditions.
Saturday’s event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include a food truck, vendors and raffles to benefit the organization.
