A fire at the Wakefield - 241st subway station left train service suspended for hours.
Video shared exclusively with News 12 shows flames shooting out of the windows of a signal room of the subway platform. The fire broke out just before 10 a.m.
Dozens of firefighters responded, forced to carry the firehose onto the elevated platform to put out the flames. As a result, water and garbage were sent raining down onto the road below.
The MTA says there were no injuries.
Subway trains were at a complete standstill after fire officials turned off power to all of the tracks.
The fire was put under control just before 11 a.m., but 2 train subway service was suspended between Gun Hill Road and Wakefield-241st Street until around noon.
While train service was suspended, riders were advised to take the Bx39 bus service. Many riders told News 12 the changes disrupted their daily commutes.
"I had to walk all the way and come down here to get the 39 to go down," Wakefield resident Marcia said.
“I was on my way to class, but I’m going to try to find another way to get there, so hopefully I get there,” Paul Lopez, a Wakefield resident, told News 12 during the subway suspension.
The FNDY is still investigating the cause of the fire.
