Mayor: City hopes for 50,000 COVID-19 tests per day by Aug. 1
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday that more than 200,000 COVID-19 tests are given per day with the test and trace corps.
He says the city has established the goal of 50,000 COVID-19 tests by Aug. 1
There will be more than 180 testing centers by the end of June and over 1,700 tracers in action by June 1.
The mayor also says that every COVID-19 positive New Yorker will be offered a full slate of services through a resource navigator, included meal delivery, medications and mental health support.
The city says it will introduce resource navigators. This will include 200 staff from community-based organizations and institutions that will support anyone who safely separated at home.
The 15 organizations will include BronxWorks and Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation among several others.
For those who cannot safely separate at home, all providers can refer patients to the NYC Health + Hospitals Take Care hotels.
Take Care hotels are free hotel rooms with medical monitoring. There are 1,200 rooms secured, ramping up to 3,000 this summer. Free local calls and laundry will be available.
The city will also partner with the New York Public Library. The city says 50 librarians will serves as information gatherers to locate contact information for any case or contact received without a phone number or address.
Mayor de Blasio also took time to recognize mental health awareness month. He says New Yorkers feeling stressed or anxious should call 1-888-NYC-Well.
