Mayor Eric Adams and members of the New York City Council are at odds over his decision to veto a set of housing bills.

Advocates say the bills were designed to allow people to move through the city's shelter system faster.

People trying to get on their feet could stay in a shelter for 90 days in order to apply for vouchers to help pay rent.

Last week, Mayor Adams used his executive authority to end the rule.

Responding to the reactions he received from critics, Mayor Adams told News 12 in a statement that "we helped New Yorkers once again by vetoing a package of bills that would take us backwards, by leading to longer shelter stays for the most vulnerable New Yorkers."

Councilwoman Pierina Sanchez is among those opposed to the mayor's decision and said she and others who feel the same way are "going to keep at it, we're not going to relent."
