That has some health experts warning the holiday could be a major superspreader event.
Cases, hospitalizations and deaths are rising nationwide, and cases are expected to jump soon.
"In a week, more likely two weeks, we will see a surge upon a surge," says Dr. William Schaffner.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's latest ensemble forecast projects up to 321,000 COVID-19-related deaths in the U.S. by Dec. 19.
During a Thanksgiving address Wednesday, President-elect Joe Biden said the country needs to avoid COVID-19 fatigue.
Public health experts urge social distancing and wearing a mask in public.
