A Hasidic wedding scheduled for Monday in Brooklyn is being forced to downsize following a state investigation.
The wedding for Satmar Grand Rebbe Zalman Leib Teitlebaum's grandson reportedly had the potential to bring thousands of people together, a number much higher then the state currently allows for gatherings.
The governor says that the state did an investigation about the wedding after receiving a suggestion that it was happening.
"There was a large wedding planned that would violate the gathering rules," Cuomo says. "And Dr. Zucker signed an order, saying you can't have a wedding, in these locations that is over the gathering line."
The wedding was supposed to take place on Rodney Street at Congregation Yetev Lev D'Satmar.
Their wedding committee released a statement, saying in part: "The unwarranted attacks on this event are detached from the facts. It's sad that nobody verified our plans before attacking us. We decided the wedding will not be held as planned and will only be attended by close family members."
