As New York City moves closer to reopening, one Bronx business is reminding the public that it’s open to service customers’ auto needs during the coronavirus pandemic.
As an essential business, American A1 Auto Center’s doors have remained open to keep customer’s cars rolling on the road.
Like many essential shops, the Bronx auto center has also made many changes in service to keep their staff safe, as well as comply with the city’s social distancing guidelines.
“I alternate my staff so we're not on top of each other,” said owner Raymond Lopez, “We disinfect all the vehicles. We wipe down the credit card machines, customers keys, steering wheels is when we're done.”
The auto center is also offering pick up and drop off services to limit the number of people in the shop. This is an option so that customers don’t have to leave their homes to get their cars serviced.
Despite being open, the repair shop has lost about half of its business. As the city moves closer to phase one of reopening, Lopez says his shop has adjusted to this new normal.
“We are trying to keep it going and trying to keep everyone serviced,” said Lopez.
