The CDC just released a new heartbreaking new prediction today. 

The CDC says another 92,000 Americans could die of COVID-19 in the next three weeks. More than 38,00 Americans have died of COVID-19 in the first two weeks of the new year.

The good news in the search for a cure is that Johnson & Johnson just announced that its early-stage trials show its vaccine creates an immune response in nearly all volunteers including both antibody and t-cell. There were minimal side effects after just one dose.

This morning, News 12 discusses President-elect Joe Biden’s COVID-19 relief package that he is expected to unveil tonight. The plan is expected to include billions of dollars to speed up vaccine rollout and additional relief funds for American households.

Biden’s announcement also comes as the number of people seeking unemployment aid soared last week to 965,000, the most since late August and evidence that the resurgent virus has caused a spike in layoffs.

News 12’s Elizabeth Hashagen was joined by Marty Cantor this morning to discuss what Americans can expect with the economy and the vaccine.

Cantor is a CPA and economic development consultant.

Part of President-elect Joe Biden’s plan calls for extending unemployment insurance, small business assistance and changing the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $15.

Cantor says money needs to be put into the economy until it turns around on its own.

There are also concerns that there are not enough sites for getting vaccinated. However, Gov. Andrew Cuomo pointed out that the state only receives 300,000 doses a week and there are now seven million people eligible to get vaccinated.

Cantor discusses how the state needs a better system and says its technology is a travesty.

If you are still waiting for your stimulus money keep an eye on the mail. The IRS says about eight million people will receive the money via a prepaid Visa card. They say it will come in a white envelope with a treasury logo. Also, the Visa card is issued through Meta Bank.
