Speaking with reporters outside of Mayor Eric Adams' residence Thursday, legal counsel Alex Spiro offered a full-throated defense of the mayor's character and conduct.
He described the case brought by the Southern District of New York as "thrown together," to do maximum harm to Adams' reputation.
"You can almost picture them trying to cobble this together to try and tell a story and say 'corruption corruption' at this press conference, and they do that to tarnish him in your eyes," Spiro said.
Adams would join a large list of high-profile clients for Spiro, who according to the AP includes Alec Baldwin and Elon Musk.
Spiro's firm, Quinn Emmanuel, touts its record in Crisis Law cases and has argued on behalf of the government in the past.
Its website describes a focus of winning the court of public opinion, in addition to in court, when defending high-profile companies and clients.
Spiro says the mayor will appear in court as proceedings begin on either Friday or next Monday.
