The widow of slain NYPD Detective Rafael Ramos announced a foundation in her husband's name to build better relationships between police and inner-city youth.
Next week marks one year since the murders of Ramos and his partner, Wenjian Liu. They were fatally shot while sitting in their patrol car in Bed-Stuy.
"I'm hoping that through a lot of positive changes in the community, people will remember who he was," says Maritza Ramos, one of the officers' widows.
The new foundation will hold its first fundraising gala in January to raise money for other organizations that help the families of fallen officers.
