Wind gusts up to 40 mph today can lead to isolated power outages as drier weather returns ahead of a chance for rain and some mixing later Thanksgiving into Friday next week.
Grab a heavy coat! It is going to be a windy and chilly day as we completely dry out from any lingering light showers. Expect gradual breaks of sun through this afternoon. Highs near 49 will feel colder with scattered wind gusts anywhere between 30 and 40 mph. That wind isn't going anywhere all weekend with gusts tomorrow also between around 30 and 40 mph with another dry day Sunday.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, there are a few things to talk about. The start of the week is overall fine with just some scattered rain showers returning by Tuesday. Getaway day Wednesday is nice locally but check with your air carrier if you are flying since there will be travel weather impacts across parts of the country.
Locally, there is still the chance for a nearby storm in the later Thanksgiving into Friday timeframe that may be close enough to impact Thanksgiving evening and post-holiday travel on Friday. Exact timing and details more than five days out are highly uncertain but will become much clearer over the next 72 hours.
At this point, I would start to plan on having your travel plans impacted by at least some rain and, depending on the storm track, some mixed rain and snow, too. While there is still a chance this can miss to the south, as of this morning that chance of a complete miss is looking less likely.
News 12 will continue to bring you important updates on holiday travel weather for next week all weekend.
TODAY: Drying out/windy. Clouds will gradually break for a clearer sky and the afternoon and evening will be dry, but windy! Northwest wind gusts up to 40 mph will be possible through the day and this can lead to isolated power outages. The fact that trees have fewer leaves this time of year and are not weighed down as much should help limit the power outage risk somewhat, but the chance for some outages will still be possible. Highs around 49, but it will feel colder with the wind.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy, windy and feeling cold. There will still be scattered wind gusts between 15 and 30 mph tonight. Lows around the lower 40s, but the wind will make it feel colder.
SUNDAY: Windy again. A mix of sun and clouds with highs around 53, but the wind gusts will increase to 20 to 40 mph at times again. There will once again be a risk of some isolated power problems, but the day will be dry. Lows near 42 with diminishing wind into Monday.
MONDAY: Sun gives way to more clouds. Highs around 55 degrees. Lows around 47.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers. Highs around 57. Lows around 39.
WEDNESDAY: Sun and clouds. Breezy with highs around 47. Lows around 35.
THANKSGIVING THURSDAY: Possible rain/mix moving in. Becoming cloudy with the chance of rain developing into the evening. This is highly dependent on the track of a storm to our south. Highs around 45. Rain may become a wintry mix at times overnight into Friday depending on the storm track. Details will become much clearer over the next 72 hours, but a complete miss is looking less likely as of this morning. Lows around 34.
FRIDAY: Possible rain/mix. Mainly cloudy with possible rain or wintry mix depending on the track of a nearby storm to the south. This could impact post-Thanksgiving travel plans. Highs around 44. Lows around 34.
