Witness: Person rescued from burning home, 3 dogs injured

A person was rescued from a vacant home that caught fire in Crotona Park East Tuesday, officials say.

Update 12/27/18: One of the injured dogs injured in the fire died Thursday afternoon, according to Animal Care Center of NYC. Previous coverage below.
A person was rescued from a vacant home that caught fire in Crotona Park East Tuesday, officials say.
The vacant home on Southern Boulevard and Jennings Street was destroyed after the fire broke out around 7 a.m.
News 12 was told that a squatter inside the home had to be pulled out to safety. Witnesses say at least three dogs were injured and taken from the scene.
The fire marshal is working to determine what may have sparked the blaze. The building will most likely need to be demolished.
