Crews bolstered Orchard Beach's sand dunes Thursday to prepare for an expected winter storm this weekend.
Forecasts predict strong winds and possible coastal flooding.
Workers from the city's Department of Parks and Recreation were out in force for much of the day as a few joggers and walkers enjoyed the calm before the storm.
Officials say the 6-foot-tall dunes should help mitigate flood damage and beach erosion.
