The CT BBB is seeing typical scams involving tickets and merchandise. Other scams to watch for include sweepstakes, employment, vacation rentals and travel booking.

The CT BBB advises:

  • Use credit cards whenever possible for added purchase protection.

  • Avoid deals that seem too good to be true.

  • Confirm refund and cancellation policies before purchasing tickets, lodging or travel packages.

  • Keep records of all transactions and communications.

"You definitely want to do your research first. Like anything you're purchasing online, a contractor that five minutes of research can save you so much time, headaches and money down the road," said Kristen Johnson, director of communications for BBB Connecticut.

If you see a scam or are the victim of one, report it to the BBB Scam Tracker at BBB.org/ScamTracker. If you lost money online, report it to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
