The Bronx is trying to "pull" itself out of the long-time ranking it has held as the unhealthiest county in the state.
The World’s Strongest Borough program is trying to plant the exercise seed early in the youth of the borough to change residents' health habits for years to come.
Thomas Johnson, a health and fitness coach, spent Wednesday at the Claremont Neighborhood Center teaching kids how to do pull-ups.
“The idea was to kind of get something started in the Bronx where we could culminate enough people doing one pull-up, and all those people together we can submit to the Guinness Book of World Records,” said Baron Ambrosia, community activist.
So, Ambrosia and Johnson will be bringing a mobile pull-up bar to various parks throughout the summer.
The Bronx has already completed more than 1,400 pull-ups. Mayor Bill de Blasio officially declared May 31 the World’s Strongest Borough Day.
