A 99-year-old World War II veteran received a proclamation for his service from the state Assembly this Memorial Day.
Hebrew Home resident Stanley Bernstein lost 18 fellow soldiers when he landed on Omaha Beach during D-Day. He also saved the life of a Canadian pilot during his years of service.
Bernstein and his wife of 67 years, Charlotte, say they were touched by the honor.
"I can't express the joy and feeling of warmth and love given by all the people here," Bernstein said.
