A young girl from Brooklyn has been recognized for her musical talents and received a special scholarship to study music – and a surprise visit from "The Little Mermaid" herself.
Melodee Pouponneau was surprised with a $10,000 Angels scholarship to pursue music, which was given to her by actress and singer Halle Bailey, most famously known for playing Ariel in Disney’s live-action reboot of "The Little Mermaid."
From the age of 6 years old through high school, Bailey has spent most of her free time at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, taking the stage with her voice and presence. The scholarship will go towards helping her pursue a double major in music and psychology.
"She lights up the stage, she has a gorgeous voice and presence," said Chad Cooper, who signed Melodee up for the award and is the executive director of the BKCM.
“It just touches so many people in so many ways... I feel like every time I'm sad or stressed music makes me feel better,” said Melodee.
