3-alarm fire breaks out in Highbridge
Emergency crews responded to a three-alarm fire at an apartment building in Highbridge Sunday.
The flames broke out at 1234 Shakespeare Ave. at around 10 a.m. Fire officials say the blaze likely started in two apartments and spread to the foyer of the top floor.
"I went up to the roof and I saw the vent flaming, just flaming. And when I saw it flaming, I knocked on everybody's door and told them, 'Let's go, let's get downstairs,'" said Ulysses Velazquez, who lives on the fourth floor of the building.
No residents were harmed, but one firefighter suffered from chest pains.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
