Wildlife officials are releasing hundreds of wild herring into the Bronx River for the third consecutive year.
The herring are actually native to New York, but wildlife officials say pollution and the creation of dams have driven the population down over the decades.
The third annual “Running of the Fish” sent 400 alewife herring down a tube and into the river.
Experts say replenishing the species will help restore the health of the entire river.
