When a viewer asked News 12 The Bronx to examine a flagless flagpole near Jerome and Bainbridge avenues, tracking down the people responsible for maintaining it proved difficult.
A local American Legion post says it will install a new flag, but the pole's owner remains a mystery.
Cab drivers who serve the area say the flag recently fell down in a storm. It has not been replaced since then, according to residents.
News 12 reached out to a number of agencies, but it remains unclear who maintains the flagpole.
Ibeth Venditti, who works nearby, says she's unsure who is responsible for the flag, but also that it's been a part of the area for almost 40 years. In years past, she says the owners of a nearby bar used to take care of it. But the bar owners are no longer in the area.
Gino Venditti, who owns Gino's Pizza next door, says he remembers when it was installed years ago.
"The community wants the flag up," he says now.
