Activists pay for commuters’ subway fare
Transportation activists handed out free subway fares at the 149th 3rd Avenue Metro station in the Bronx Wednesday.
It's part of the 'Swipe it Forward' campaign, a citywide initiative that pays for subway rides for New Yorkers who cannot afford the $2 fare.
Last year the campaign says it paid for 120,000 tickets for New Yorkers.
Campaign organizers say they hope the free rides help those who cannot afford the fee, often breaking the law to travel around the city.
