Baby OK after pregnant woman is slain
A newborn baby girl is alive after police say an attacker cut her out of her mother's womb in the Bronx Friday.
Police say a 22-year-old woman attacked 22-year-old Angelikque Sutton, who was nine months pregnant. They say the suspect stabbed Sutton in the stomach and cut out the unborn child.
The incident happened at 440 Monticello Ave. in Wakefield where the alleged attacker, Ashleigh Wade, lived.
The victim died in the hospital, but police say the baby has survived and is expected to be OK.
Police sources say Wade was claiming to be the mother of the baby when first responders arrived. Her landlord says she stated that she was nine months pregnant.
Wade is at Jacobi Medical Center, undergoing intense psychiatric evaluation. She has been charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police sources say DNA testing is underway to confirm the baby belonged to the victim.
