Bronx LGBTQ health center helps hundreds in first month
A brand new LGBTQ health center in the Bronx is offering services to hundreds in need.
The Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, located on Third Avenue, has been open for roughly a month, but officials say people have been flooding through the doors from all over the Bronx and out of state. They say the response reflects how badly the center was needed in the community.
The heath center offers everything from mental health services to primary care, an on-site pharmacy and LGBTQ-specific resources.
They say their goal is to provide a safe space for those who may have been discriminated in the past and let them know that they are there to help and support them.
The clinic is Callen-Lorde's first site in the Bronx. There are two other clinic locations in Manhattan and plans to open one in Brooklyn.
