A Bronx man died while in the custody of NYPD officers, according to officials.
Dwayne Pritchett, 48, was pronounced dead at New York Presbyterian-The Allen Hospital after police say he lost conscious in their custody.
The incident happened on Sunday while police were responding to 2767 Reservoir Ave. around 4:50 p.m.
Police say Pritchett's father told authorities his son would not leave his bedroom.
After checking on Pritchett, police discovered he had a gun and bullets as well as drugs inside his room before placing him in handcuffs.
While in restraints, police say Pritchett attempted to grab an officer's service pistol.
Police removed him from the room where they say he became unresponsive and soon lost consciousness.
Emergency responders attempted to provide lifesaving care on scene, police say.
However, Pritchett did not survive.
Prentice Pritchett, 71, was later arrested on felony weapons and drug charges, police say.
Police are investigating the incident and say a medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
