The memorial at Ground Zero wasn't the only one held in remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001 on Wednesday.
Communities came together for smaller ceremonies all over the city, including one at Bill Brown Park in Sheepshead Bay.
It has been 18 years since the attacks and for as much time that has passed, the memories remain as painful.
Residents say they vow to keep the memory alive by holding this ceremony every year and keeping it in the community.
Many who took part in the ceremony were too young to recall the attacks, and some weren't even born when it happened.
