Con Ed crews make equipment repairs after customers lose power
Some Con Edison customers in Riverdale lost power early Sunday as temperatures climbed into the 90s.
Crews were on West 246th Street trying to fix equipment problems, which they say are to blame for the outages.
A spokesperson for Con Ed says it is reducing voltage by 8 percent in some spots in Riverdale as a precaution, to protect equipment and maintain service while the repairs are being made.
The affected area includes more than 31,000 customers and is bounded by Westchester County on the north, the Bronx River on the west, Harlem River on the south and Sedgwick to the Bronx River on the east.
The company is asking customers in these areas not to use appliances like washers, dryers, microwaves and air conditioners until equipment problems are solved, unless needed for medical reasons.
