Crowds gathered at Haffen Park Sunday for an event that aimed to take a new approach to ending violence.
It marked the first-ever "Music Over Violence" event, and it was organized by the office of state Assemblyman Carl Heastie.
There was local food on hand as business owners, artists and community members came together for a day of live music. The event aimed to empower and shift the mindset of youth and families.
Families filled the audience, listening to different types of music and spoken-word performances. Hip-hop artist HoodCelebrityy performed her hit single "Walking Trophy."
Most of the event organizers are from the borough. They say they plan on making Music Over Violence an annual event.
