Delayed funds prevent repair of veterans post
Bronx veterans need help rebuilding their post after it was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy back in 2012.
The veterans say that AMVETS Post #38 at 14-50 Shore Drive in Throgs Neck has been around for decades.
In 2013, Assemblyman Michael Benedetto allocated a $50,000 grant to help repair the post. Benedetto says the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, an organization that provides construction and financing services to the public, has delayed the grant for several months.
Officials claim that it will cost upward of $70,000 - $100,000 to rebuild the post.
Veterans say that the post is the only establishment that will enable them to help fellow veterans in need.
A fundraiser will be held at the post at 7 p.m. on Friday.
