Devoe Park in University Heights now has nine gates with locks at all entrances to help curb community concerns about partying and drug dealing activity in the area.
Councilman Fernando Cabrera said that the community believes the gates were “necessary.”
While the locks were installed with good intentions, one resident in the area is not buying it.
“They just make it worse,” says Joseph Landrau. “People will go around it or they'll find another way. My solution would be to just leave it open and have security here.”
Councilman Cabrera says that the police will be making rounds to make sure no one enters after hours.
“We're gonna be making more improvements in this park and we want to make sure that we're able to preserve what we have invested upon,” he says.
The councilman says the park will be locked starting Monday morning and reopened each morning.
