Domestic violence march held at the Castle Hill Houses
The streets of Castle Hill were taken over Saturday by the first ever domestic violence awareness march at the Castle Hill Houses.
Julie Morrill, the commanding officer of the unit that patrols the Castle Hill Houses, says they see a lot of cases of verbal and physical abuse at the houses and all over the Bronx.
She says that is why her unit at Police Service Area 8 hosted the event. They say events like these are very important to help keep people vigilant.
Several domestic violence organizations were also present to provide services and remind survivors and current victims they are not alone.
"This is great because right now what it does in this time and era, it shows people that there are people that care about them," says domestic violence survivor, Doreen Lesane. "There are services that are available for them."
October is domestic violence awareness month and the NYPD will be hosting more events just like this one over the next few weeks.
