No matter your stance on snow, most people seem to agree that having a snowy Christmas just seems to be right.

But what are the chances of having a white Christmas in New Jersey this year? Unfortunately not very good.

The National Weather Service says that there is only about a 10 percent chance of seeing an inch or more of snow on the ground come Christmas morning in any given year.

News 12 New Jersey Meteorologist Justin Godynick says that for New Jersey to see a snowy Christmas this year, an area of low pressure would need to track along the state coastline and draw colder air in on a northeast wind. This is the setup for a Nor’easter.

The American Global Forecast System models show a quiet Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with no snow. But the European models show rain with possibly some snow in northern New Jersey on Christmas Eve. However a forecast of eight or more days out has an accuracy of less than 50 percent.

So for now, it’s looking like it will be a snow-free Christmas in the Garden State.
