Students at Fordham Preparatory School came together Monday to give back and help stock local pantries for Thanksgiving.
Students collected more than 20,000 pounds of canned food that they packed up before making deliveries.

The annual event is part of the high school’s Thanksgiving food drive, and the food collected will be distributed local food pantries.
In the spirit of giving back, Fordham Prep turns the event into a competition with other high schools participating in the Great Ignatian Challenge. The event is in its fourth year, and organizers hope to raise awareness to food insecurity issues in the borough. Each year an alumnus donated money and the school with the most items collected will take home a large portion of the money, geared toward tuition assistance.
Local pantries in the area will receive about 150 tons of donated food, enough to help out at least 74,000 people.
