Gov. Cuomo proposes $15 minimum wage increase to state university workers
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a proposal to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour for nearly 30,000 workers in the State University system on Monday.
It is part of his latest move to get a statewide $15 minimum wage.
Last week, New York State lawmakers raised the minimum wage for tipped workers from $5.65 to $7.50; for fast food workers from $8.75 to $10.50; and for all other workers statewide, from $8.75 to $9.00.
State lawmakers are expected to debate the proposal during the 2016 session, beginning Monday.
