Group looks to take Gowanus Expressway underground
The Gowanus Expressway is known to many Brooklyn drivers as a traffic nightmare and one group is hoping to change that.
A group of residents says they want to revive a plan first proposed in the 90s, to bury the Gowanus Expressway starting at Bay Ridge and turn it into an underground roadway.
They say not only would this help resolve the traffic and pollution but would also make the area safer.
Supporters of the plan say they hope to open up Third Avenue, which is currently under the expressway, to the Sunset Park community.
While many residents welcome the plan, others are skeptical over the logistics and cost.
The group says they're working on writing up a more concrete proposal and getting community support before bringing it to the table.
