Leaders seek to establish permanent greenway in Riverdale
Riverdale kicked off its sixth annual Riverfest Sunday afternoon.
The day was filled with boat rides, music and entertainment.
Local leaders at the event took the opportunity to call for yearlong access to the waterfront.
Sen. Jeffrey Klein says the long-term goal is to establish a permanent greenway where the MTA and Metro-North train tracks run. He says Manhattan currently has an extended greenway along the Hudson River, so the Bronx should, too.
"It's really important to have green space particularly for the children," he says. "Give them an opportunity to really enjoy all the natural treasures that we have here."
Klein says he is working with the MTA and Metro-North to see if a permanent greenway is practical.
