The man who helped rescue twin babies during a fire in Williamsbridge 10 months ago is about to be honored for his heroism.

Jermaine Shirley woke on Dec. 18 to find his apartment building engulfed in flames. He says he ran from door to door in the six-family building to make sure his neighbors were safe and could get out.

Shirley then went outside and actually caught 11-month-old twins after they were dropped from a second-story window. A mail carrier for the postal service, Shirley was nominated for their Postmaster General's Hero Award.

He will also be honored next week by the Red Cross at their "Red Tie Affair" in Manhattan.

Shirley has not been able to move back into his third-floor apartment because of the condition that the fire left it in. He has been staying with family in the Bronx.
