The Unionport Bridge continues to give drivers headaches as closures and construction take over the area.
The Department of Transportation tweeted that the bridge work on the Zerega Avenue on-ramp and pedestrian walkway is shifting Friday to the newly constructed temporary lift bridge.
The already congested section of the Bronx has dealt with backups, an issue that drivers have voiced their concerns about. However, the city says it will be all worth it when the bridge is finished.
The plan consists of installing a drawbridge that lifts on one end connecting Unionport and Castle Hill to Throgs Neck, East Tremont and the northeast section of the borough.
The new bridge will have three lanes in each direction along with a sidewalk and a bike lane.
Drivers News 12 spoke to say it’s been frustrating especially when dealing with one lane, but they are excited about the change.
