A local nonprofit that recycles and repurposes prosthetic limbs is making a difference across the globe.
Penta Medical Recycling’s founder Henry Iseman says that over 300,000 limbs are wasted annually because people don’t know that they can be repurposed for other patients. Penta works to collect prosthetics from clinics and other sites to dismantle old products and reassemble them for new use.
“We want to further engage our New York City community, our Brooklyn community,” said Anna Szczepanek, incoming executive director of Penta. “We want to see how we can further involve the prosthetic clinics in Brooklyn and also individuals living with limb loss.”
