NYCHA's Parkside Houses to get $16M upgrade
The Parkside Houses in Allerton will be getting new roofs and more upgrades in a multimillion-dollar renovation that residents said is long overdue.
"Every time it rains and it leaks, I get an infestation of roaches," said tenant Lucy Nazario. "There's mold, a lot of mildew."
Councilman Ritchie Torres (D-15th District) announced the upgrades Friday. "These are among the worst roofs in public housing, and these roofs are past their life expectancy," he said.
Torres said more than $16 million had been secured for the project.
Nazario and other tenants welcome the upgrades. She said parts of her ceiling have been leaking for years, causing mold to grow.
All of the buildings at the New York City Housing Authority's Parkside Houses, which is located on White Plains Road near Adee Avenue, will receive new roofs, and brickwork and walls will be repaired at buildings.
The work is expected to be completed in two years.
