Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Bronx) is working to draw attention to her proposed Green New Deal environmental legislation with new art posters.
She has created two posters, including one that highlights Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx. Supporters waited for hours in line Saturday for the chance to meet the congresswoman and get a poster.
Her proposed Green New Deal bill calls for universal access to clean air and water, renewable energy, quality health care and jobs. The push for the legislation was tied into Saturday's Pelham Bay Nature Day and a back-to-school backpack giveaway.
Ocasio-Cortez also signed backpacks for students who are getting ready for the upcoming school year. She says she's urging students to be diligent and practice, whether it's art or mathematics.
A total of 250 posters were given away at Saturday's event, and they will also be made available for purchase by the public.
