Officials concerned about traffic along BX Greenway
The South Bronx Greenway along Food Center Drive in Hunts Point is nearly complete, but officials are worried about updated traffic patterns once finished.
Officials say that while there are new bike lanes and trees planted along the corridor, there is no real task force to ensure traffic moves smoothly.
Borough officials say the soon-to-be-updated street grid needs to be managed after the Greenway is put in place. They say they are concerned that the change in traffic flow will do more harm than good for drivers.
Josephine Infante, the president of the Hunts Point Economic Development Corporation, says safety must be taken into account. Should an accident occur along the Greenway, which is at one point a one-way with four lanes, emergency vehicles must circumvent the span.
The project is expected to be completed by this September.
