Parents: Bus dropped off 5-year-old alone
Two Bronx parents say a bus driver dropped off their 5-year-old son alone, without an adult in sight Tuesday.
Marina and Edgar Sanchez say they had no idea their son, Rafael, was unattended and roaming the streets when the father drove to Delta School to wait for the normal end-of-day dismissal.
He says he got a frantic call from his wife telling him a good Samaritan had found the kindergartner wandering two blocks away from the stop.
Both parents say they are outraged and wonder why a school bus driver would drop a 5-year-old child off without making sure an adult was there.
According to the city's Department of Education, any student, regardless of age or grade, is allowed to get off the bus at any stop, unless they inform the driver that they want to remain on board.
The Pupil Transportation Policy also says parents must have a pre-existing agreement for their child to be returned to the school by their bus driver if there is no parent at the bus stop.
